No Cat Should Suffer Such Pain for So Long
Mari was born in a barn. When she was found, she was in a pen with young calves, covered in manure and dirt, with a bloody, inflamed rump. She had no tail. We believe a calf may have stepped on her, though she may have been born without one. Either way, this tiny kitten was hurt, filthy, and alone.
Her rescuers took her in right away. Her foster mom cleaned her up, and the vet treated her wounds. Then came more bad news. Mari was riddled with Giardia, coccidia, and roundworms. Her treatment is working, and her tummy is already improving. Her tail area is healing beautifully.
But Mari's biggest problem was still hidden.
Her back leg is badly broken.
X-rays showed a severely displaced fracture of her femur. Her foster mom was shocked when she saw how bad it was. Mari has gone far too long with this break.
Sweet, friendly, and playful, Mari wants nothing more than to run and tumble like any other kitten. She even tries to put weight on her injured leg, despite the serious break. Her playful spirit is still shining; just imagine the joy of watching her chase a toy once she’s had the chance to heal!
Her injury can be fixed, if we act now.
An orthopedic specialist reviewed her x-rays and said the break is absolutely fixable. Mari will need a surgical plate to hold the bone in place. Amputation is not the plan, because our vets want to do everything possible to give her all four legs.
At just 10 weeks old, Mari is at the perfect age to heal. Kittens this young bounce back fast, but every day she waits is another day of pain and another day the bone stays out of place.
Surgery with a plate is a major procedure, and it will cost a lot. The specialty hospital has generously offered a discount, but we need your help to get her on the surgery schedule as soon as possible.
$25 helps pay for her pain medication and supplies
