Temporary Foster Program
Found a Cat in Need? You Don't Have to Do It Alone.
Finding a cat or kittens in need can feel overwhelming. You want to help, but you may not know what medical care they need, how to find an adopter, or where to begin.
Through the Stray Cat Blues Temporary Foster Program, eligible finders can care for the cat they found while receiving guidance and support from our rescue team.
What Is a Temporary Foster?
A Temporary Foster provides a safe place for a found cat or kittens to stay while Stray Cat Blues helps prepare them for adoption.
Unlike a traditional foster placement, you are applying to foster the cat or kittens already in your care. Once approved, you will be connected with a mentor who can guide you through their medical care, rescue intake, adoption profile, and placement.
By becoming a Temporary Foster, you are giving the cat you found something critically important: a safe place to stay while they receive care and search for a permanent home.
You Will Have Support
You will not be expected to navigate the process by yourself.
Approved Temporary Fosters are connected with a Stray Cat Blues mentor who will:
Answer questions and provide ongoing support
Assist you with setting up vet appointments, with the cost covered by Stray Cat Blues
If needed, help coordinate medications and explain how medications should be administered
Guide you through the process of adopting out your foster cat
Your mentor and the Stray Cat Blues team will continue working with you until the cats or kittens in your care have been adopted.
What Temporary Fosters Do
Temporary Fosters play an active role in helping their found cat reach adoption. Depending on the cat’s needs, you may be asked to:
Provide a safe, appropriate space in your home
Communicate regularly with your mentor
Feed and care for the cat or kittens
Keep foster animals appropriately separated from other pets when necessary
Attend scheduled veterinary appointments or coordinate transportation
Administer medications as instructed if needed
Provide photographs and information for the cat’s adoption profile
Help potential adopters get to know the cat
Temporary Fostering Saves Lives
We have a limited number of foster homes, and many found cats cannot enter a rescue unless someone is able to provide a place for them to stay.
By continuing to house the cat you found, you are helping create the space and time needed to give that cat a genuine path toward veterinary care, adoption, and a permanent home.
You provide the safe place. We provide resources and guidance. Cats find permanent, loving homes.
