We Need A Little Halloween Magic for a Very Special Black Cat

Right now, one very special kitty is away from his home at Whiskers Way Station (WWS).

Ashes, our handsome black cat with the quirky personality and devoted fan club, became suddenly ill and developed a high fever. He needed emergency care at Metro's ER hospital, and the volunteers who know and love him are anxiously waiting for him to come home.

For a cat who fears carriers, Ashes walked right into one without a fight. He felt so miserable that even his fear seemed to fade. Now, in unfamiliar surroundings, he is scared and confused.

And back at WWS, his people are waiting.

Black cats have long been associated with Halloween, but to the volunteers at Whiskers Way Station, Ashes isn't a symbol of superstition or spooky season. He's a beloved member of their family, a sleek black panther who has spent years learning that people can be trusted.

And this Halloween, we're asking our community to show Ashes just how many people are rooting for him.

What does it take to help a frightened cat learn to trust? Time, patience, and people who refuse to give up.

Rescued in 2023 from a barn window well with his six-week-old siblings, Ashes was the shyest of the bunch. After eight months in foster care with little progress, he arrived at WWS on March 16, 2024, to learn how to be a housecat.

Slowly, with patience and care, he began to enjoy human company. Though he isn’t quite ready for adoption, he has become a WWS favorite. And what a personality! If cats had romance novels, Ashes would be the handsome, mysterious panther on the cover.

He’s also had his share of scares, including difficulty urinating and swallowing an eight-inch leather toy cord that required emergency endoscopy. Each time, his WWS family rallied around him. Now, they’re doing it again.

How many rescue cats receive get-well notes? Ashes does. Because at WWS, these cats aren’t just residents. They’re family.

Now, as Ashes faces another illness, that same team is waiting for news and hoping to welcome their handsome boy back home.

While others celebrate the holiday with costumes, candy, and spooky black cat decorations, we're thinking about a very real black cat who has captured so many hearts.

Ashes has already overcome so much. He's learned to trust, discovered the comfort of human companionship, and become a beloved part of the Whiskers Way Station family.

Now, he needs us to rally around him once again

Your donation will help Stray Cat Blues cover Ashes' emergency veterinary expenses and continue providing the care he needs. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference.

No tricks. Just a little Halloween magic for a black cat who deserves every chance at a happy, healthy life.

Get well, Ashes. You have so many people who love you and want you home.

Once the bills are covered for Ashes, any additional funds received will be allocated to support the future care of cats under the guardianship of Stray Cat Blues.
