From Silent Suffering to Safe Haven

For over a year, a kind woman watched a stray orange cat grow more battered and broken on her doorstep. Recently, his suffering became impossible to ignore: he was badly limping, severely injured, and appeared to be missing an eye.

That brave stray is now William, and he is finally safe with Stray Cat Blues. But the lifetime of pain he carried on the streets runs far deeper than we first imagined.

A Hidden Crisis: A Lifetime of Pain Behind His Eyes

What looked like a simple injury was just the tip of a devastating iceberg. During William’s initial veterinary evaluation, we discovered:

  • Agonizing Entropion: His eyelids were rolling inward, dragging eyelashes across his eyes like sandpaper with every blink, leaving his eyes swollen, oozing, and chronically infected.

  • Severe Dental Disease: At just 10 years old, he has fractured and missing teeth, causing constant, debilitating pain and risking his whole body health.

Our initial plan was already ambitious: delicate ophthalmic surgery and urgent dental work to finally relieve his pain.

A Devastating Turn: Life-Altering Emergency Surgery

On surgery day, once William was sedated, the medical team saw something no one expected: significant abnormalities inside his left eye consistent with possible malignancy. The plan instantly changed.

To save William’s life and relieve his most acute pain, surgeons performed:

  1. Enucleation of the left eye (immediate removal of the diseased eye).

  2. Entropion repair on the painful right eye.

  3. Postponing dental work until he is stable and stronger.

This was not the gentle “tune-up” we hoped for. It became major, life-altering surgery.

Fighting Hard for a Pain-Free Future

Since his surgery on Monday, William has been a true fighter. His foster reports he is:

  • Eating well (with puréed food and extra water).

  • Tolerating his medications (Onsior, gabapentin, and antibiotics) like a champ.

  • Resting comfortably and using his litter box reliably.

Despite a small, normal-but-concerning spray of blood from the surgical site, he is being closely monitored, and his recheck is scheduled for Christmas Eve.

William is doing everything we can ask of him. Now he needs us to do the rest.

🎁 Double Your Gift to Cover William’s Growing Costs

Because of the unexpected surgical complexity and the delayed but necessary dental procedure, William’s medical costs have grown dramatically. Your gift today will go twice as far to cover:

  • Specialized ophthalmic care and follow-up for his remaining eye.

  • Enucleation aftercare, medications, and recheck appointments.

  • A future, critical dental procedure so he can finally eat without pain.

William spent years suffering in silence. Today, he is safe and healing—but he cannot reach a pain-free, purr-filled future without your help.

This is the most powerful time to give. Thanks to our anonymous supporters, every donation made through December 31, 2025, is matched dollar-for-dollar up to $45,000.
