No Kitten Left Behind: A True Story of Compassion & Courage
Every rescue has a story, but some nights remind us just how much heart and determination it takes to save the most vulnerable lives.
It began with a call from a building manager in Pottstown who discovered a very sick kitten in the basement of his building. Our volunteer Amy put out an urgent plea for help. One of our team members, already at an adoption event, agreed to wait if the manager could bring the kitten to her. He did—and what she received was a gravely ill little soul, clinging to life. With teamwork, Heather stepped in to stabilize the kitten.
But the story didn’t end there.
The very next day, the building manager reported another kitten in the basement—only this time he had already locked up and left for the night. That didn’t stop our team. Heather drove more than an hour to Roxborough to track down the manager at his home and get the key, then another 40 minutes back to Pottstown. By the time Skye and her boyfriend Dakoda arrived, Heather had already secured one black kitten.
The basement was moldy, dark, and dangerous—filled with pipes, wires, and spiders—but armed only with a trap, determination, and love, the team went in. Inside, they found not just one, but two more kittens and a baby possum.
One kitten was caught quickly, but the other bolted into a heavy iron pipe. Thinking fast, Dakoda used a rubber tube they found to gently push the kitten through while Heather and Skye waited with a trap and towel. The frightened kitten was scruffed and placed safely in the carrier. Meanwhile, the baby possum wriggled out through a hole to freedom, unharmed.
By the time the team returned home—well past 10:30 PM—the kittens were covered in fleas but alive. Fleas dropped off by the dozens as they warmed on heating pads. A trap was left behind in the basement, just in case more little lives are still hiding in the shadows.
These kittens, along with the first very sick one, would not have survived without the sheer compassion, bravery, and persistence of our volunteers. Heather, Skye, and Dakoda went far beyond the call of duty to save lives that others might have left behind.
Now, these fragile kittens need urgent medical care, flea treatment, and ongoing foster support. This is where you come in.
Your donations make rescues like this possible. Every dollar helps cover medical bills, supplies, and the resources it takes to answer emergency calls—no matter the hour. Without your support, these kittens would still be alone in that dark basement.
Please consider donating today to help us continue saving lives—because no kitten deserves to be left behind.
