The Best Little Cat House in PA
Nestled in the picturesque Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania, just northeast of Harrisburg, The Best Little Cat House in PA has been a beacon of compassion for terminally ill and special-needs cats for 44 years. As one of the nation’s longest-standing feline hospice organizations & a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, they provide a safe, loving home for cats facing challenging diagnoses like Feline AIDS, Feline Leukemia, and other terminal conditions. Under the compassionate leadership of founder Lynn Stitt and a devoted team of volunteers, the sanctuary offers these cats the gift of living out their lives in a warm, family-like environment with top-quality care, nutritious meals, and endless love.
Thanks to the investigative skills of our Foster Home Coordinator Sue Krause, we found this possible option for placement of some of our FeLV kitties. We had three cats in particular that needed a sanctuary solution. Sue reached out to Lynn Stitt in the middle of March. Could she possibly find room for any or all of these three? She took our information and said call back next month.
Dexter and Debbie came into Stray Cat Blues foster care from a TNR site in December 2022. Both were very skinny, covered in fleas, and battling awful upper respiratory infections. When they were healthy enough to have their spay/neuter surgeries, poor Debbie and Dexter tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV). Debbie has also lost most of her eyesight from severe infections. We tried to improve her vision through surgery, but her eyesight is still severely diminished in both eyes.
And then there’s Olympus. An FeLV positive kitty who we almost lost a few times. At one point he needed a blood transfusion to save his life. His foster brought her own cat to the vet to be a donor! Through loving, compassionate care, Olympus stabilized and consistently improved. Of course, his health is compromised, but he is now doing well and is happy.
Sue placed another call to Lynn Stitt on April 23rd. They had some cancellations and now had room for all three! On Saturday April 26th Heather Egan (Thank You Heather!) picked up these lucky babies from their foster home and made the long drive to The Best Little Cat House in PA.
You meet the nicest, most generous people in the rescue community! We couldn’t imagine a better outcome for these deserving creatures. Shortly after the cats were settled in their new permanent home, we received this note from Lynn. She would not accept our donation and returned our check. “We are all in this together”.
We also found the following excerpt of an interview with Lynn on the sanctuary’s website:
"The most rewarding thing about this place hits you on a really cold night," says Lynn. "You walk through and see them sleeping—they're warm, they're safe, they're fed, they're content. It's not forever, but for now, it's as good as it gets."
