The Story of Jumba: Tiny Alien Kitten 🛸

Jumba pronounced Joo-mba (He is named after one of the aliens in Lilo & Stitch).  On April 18th, only 5 minutes before closing, we got a call from ACCT Philly asking us if we were able to pull some kittens. As always, we came together as a team and were able to pull another 10 kittens. Kittens in shelters are at very high risk of euthanasia, due to the constant care they require, that unfortunately most shelters do not have the resources for.

One of the kittens (Jumba) we took in was in critical condition. He was barely a week old, covered in blood, with his eye bulging and head swollen. We were very concerned with his condition and if he would be able to pull through. We have no idea what happened to him before he came into the shelter.  But he showed us how strong he was every single day, even as his eye continued to get worse and worse. At one point, his eye seriously looked like it was going to explode.  He went right to see his favorite vet, Dr. Stover at Main Street Vet. They were able to use numbing drops and drain his eye. (We won’t go into details here- but it wasn’t pretty!) He PURRED the entire time.

He spent quite a few weeks after that growing and getting strong. After lots of eye drops and antibiotics, he was doing much, much better. The original plan was to neuter him and remove his eye once he was 2 pounds, but Jumba had other plans apparently. We discovered that he was a bilateral cryptorchid, meaning BOTH testicles did not drop. This is extremely rare, and makes for a complicated surgery.

Thanks to donations from our generous supporters, Jumba had his eye removed, and exploratory abdominal surgery to find his missing testes. Once he was all healed up, he had a forever family waiting for him! He will now live a normal life, because we took a chance and tried our hardest to save him. It was so, so worth it.
